Sample Tour Schedule

Day 1 - Tuesday 9/23/08

This trip is arranged with "bring your own airfare." Enjoy Dinner aloft. Try to sleep on board - tomorrow will come early! We will meet you at the Munich airport in the morning!

Day 2 - Wednesday 9/24/08

Since all flights from the USA arrive early in the morning, we will meet at Munich Airport at 10:30 AM. After leaving the airport at 11:00 AM*, we travel to the "holy mountain" for a quick refreshment: The storied Kloster Andechs where we stop by the little Bräustüberl for a snack. Enjoy the rococo styled pilgrimage church or simply enjoy the view towards the Alps. After a fortifying lunch and a liter of two of the Cloister's strong Double Bock, we make a quick stop at the Wieskirche before arriving at our hotel in Füssen where your room is awaiting you at a family run 3-star Bavarian Inn. Our Hotel is located in a quiet area at the end of a dead end street in the Spa district on the edge of Füssen. Many small lakes and ponds are located here at the foot of the Alps and walking trails abound. Arriving in Füssen is like arriving home for us and we'll celebrate with a luscious Bavarian Dinner. Before dinner, we will take a short orientation walk around town, and then sit down for an optional short course in beer-tasting! We will sample the many offerings of the Aktienbraueri.

* Exact meet up time tbd. Please confirm your arrival time with us before booking your airfare.

Day 3 - Thursday 9/25/08

Awake to a traditional German breakfast, complete with fresh baked goods and strong, dark coffee. We leave at 8:15 for our tour of Ludwig II's famous castles, Neuschwanstein and its more traditional counterpart,  Hohenschwangau. We'll have time to wander around the small touristy village under the castles before we return back to Füssen for a little shopping before another wonderful dinner. If the weather is nice, you can choose to stop by Tegelberg Mountain and take a cable car (Extra cost about 15 €) to the top.  Here you can enjoy a late lunch at the top of the mountain, watching the hang gliders launching themselves and views of the  Zugspitze. After dinner, the chef will show you how to make an easy desert that we'll sample right away! In the evening, we’ll train and play several matches with the Adult “Eiswichtl” team in Füssen. Afterwards, stop by the Moskito bar for a night cap!

Option: Depending on our playing schedule, the energetic can participate in a bike excursion to the castles and then into nearby Austria for a late lunch/snack. This is one of Scott's favorite rides. The ride is not difficult, but does require a decent physical fitness level. There are several hills and the course is 80% paved - it is not, however, technical. Please let us know if you are interested in this option - extra cost if about € 15 Euros for the bike.

Day 4 Friday, 9/26/08

Sleep in and enjoy some free town in the Füssen’s Old town. In the evening, hockey action will resume and we’ll be on the rink with our German friends for several hours.

Optional Spouse Program: We'll give you a little extra rest this morning before we take a bus over to Garmisch-Partenkirchen for the day. Once there, we will visit the highest mountain in Germany, the Zugspitzte. We'll ride a Gondola to the top and marvel at the view. In the late afternoon, enjoy some strolling and shopping in the little village of Oberammergau. If the weather doesn't cooperate, we'll stop at Kloster Ettal and enjoy the monk's many endeavors.

Day 5 - Saturday 9/27/08

Today we’ll be on the rink several times throughout the day, interested with a free time program.

Optional Spouse Program: Today is a very special day - you experience first hand how the locals live. Grab a cup of coffee at the hotel and jump on our private bus. We will take a 60 minute ride into the Bavarian Countryside. You are invited to a Bavarian Breakfast at the Sohmen Family's small town butcher shop. Karl was up early making the sausages and you'll get to taste his handiwork and tour his small operation. Sepp (Joe) the Baker will come by with fresh baked goods from his store as well. It's all washed down by a Weissbier or two in true Bavarian fashion. After this experience, you will understand the meaning of the word "Gemütlichkeit."  Afterwards, we plan a stop at the beautiful Wieskirche - a Bavarian Rococo church in a meadow - a UNESCO world heritage site. In the late afternoon, we stop by the saw military action. The evening promises another one of a kind event. The music and dancing clubs in castle complex in Austria known as Ehrenberg. Here you can see several very real castles that Höfen, Austria have invited our group to their small "Heimat Abend" to listen to their local band and watch their Schuplatterl club perform traditional dancing.

 Day 6 - Sunday 9/28/2008

After breakfast, we say Auf Wiedersehen to Füssen Team and hand our luggage to a driver that will transport it to our next hotel near Munich, in Bad Tölz. We will jump on the 9:06 train to Munich. Arriving in Munich Hauptbahnhof a little after 11:00, we head straight to Marienplatz where we catch the Glockenspiel at noon.   Afterwards, Scott conducts a walking tour around Munich's old town with a special emphasis on WWII history with, yes, a stop at the world famous Hofbrauhaus. Additionally, we see the Frauenkirche and trace part of Hitler's route during his failed Putsch of 1923. At Odeonsplatz, we'll discuss the convergence of history at this site: the Theatinerkirche, the Residenz and view to the Siegestor.  In the afternoon, we’ll return to Bad Tölz where we’ll check into our hotel, have dinner and play some games with the Bad Tölz team and

Day 7 - Monday 9/29/08

We’ll ride the train into Munich where we plan lunch at the Hacker-Pschorr Festzelt, one of the many "tents" on the Oktoberfest grounds. This lovely tent seats about 7,000 people and features a ceiling decorated to simulate the beautiful Bavarian Sky. The paintings on the wall were done by an award winning theater set painter and depict sites around Munich. The lunch selection is a slow-roasted chicken. While we eat and enjoy the fresh Oktoberfest Beer, we will enjoy the traditional music of the Kirchdorfer Musik. Out private tables are reserved for our use from Noon until 5:45. In the evening, you can stay longer at the Fest and enjoy one of the other tents, or head into the city for a quiet dinner. Tent reservations cannot be confirmed until late-Spring - our exact itinerary in Munich is subject to the finalization of these arrangements.

Day 8 - Tuesday 9/30/08

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll ride back into Munich and visit the Paulaner Brewery.   This two hour "Brewery Experience" concludes, of course, with a beer tasting and a little snack. In the afternoon, we return to Oktoberfest and enjoy some of the rides and activities before we claim our reserved tables in the famous Hofbräu Festzelt at 4:00 PM. Here we'll enjoy the Wies'n favorite - rotisserie chicken washed down with a few liters of beer. As the evening progresses, the music gets loud and the guests get up on the benches to dance. It's all in good fun and the many liters of Hofbräu go down easily.

 Day 9 - Wednesday 10/1/08

You won't believe that your Bavarian Adventure is over. Today we will reboard our bus for the short trip to Munich airport and departure.
