Electricity in Europe - What the European Traveler Should Know
European voltage is twice what American voltage is. Plus, the plugs are different. Not only that, but the number of cycles per second is less. Here's what you need to know to make the stuff you're carrying work with European current.
European 'Round Pin' plug adaptor. This little guy works great. You simply plug your North American plug into the back of this adaptor. Presto...you are up and running. Most travel stores sell these. They should cost about $10-15USD each. Pick up a few.
This will only 'adapt' your plug to fit into their outlet. It will not invert nor convert voltage. Most 'newer' cameras, laptops, video cameras (3 years old or newer), will automatically 'convert' the power for you, so all you need is this adaptor. This is all I travel with and works just fine with my laptop, cell phone, battery charger, video camera, etc...
Warning - hairdryers draw a lot of voltage and are infamous for burning up...careful with hairdryers.
* The adaptor shown to the right will work in Sweden, Germany and most other European countries. |
