Where
We are hosted by Bålsta Hockey Club in Bålsta, Sweden (30 minutes north of Stockholm). Stockholm, Sweden is the largest city in Sweden with nearly 2 million inhabitants. Stockholm is known for its beauty, its buildings and architecture, its abundant open water and many parks. It is sometimes referred to as Venice of the North. Stockholm is the second most visited city in the Nordic countries.

Who
Coaches/Managers - Contact Planet Hockey to submit a team for participation. You may (1) bring an existing team or (2) assemble your own tournament team. Team spots are LIMITED.
Players/Families - you may join Planet Hockey as an individual player, based on skill, character and availability.

Hockey Training, Games and Education

  • Tournament:  "Planet Hockey Cup".  Minimum 5 games.
  • Hockey Camp:  8+ hours of on ice training with European players & coaches
  • Friendly Games:  play in 2 mixed bench games with European players.
  • Skills Competition:  represent your team/country:  fastest skater, hardest shot, top goaltender, break-away relay, shootout.
  • Dryland Training:  work out off the ice with European players and coaches and learn some of the Swedish hockey training secrets.
  • Pre-game warm ups with European teams.
  • Classroom sessions and video lectures
  • 1-2 team practices
  • Extensive Hockey Training: 20+ hours of on ice training, dryland training and classroom sessions.
  • Extensive social time with European players

Xtreme Games - Players will be divided into teams comprised of players from different countries and will compete in a FUN, competitive, friendship-building environment.  Get to know your new International hockey buddies while playing:  Floorball, Team Handball, Soccer, Flag Football, Baseball and Dodgeball.

ICEP (International Coaches Education Program) - All coaches from all teams/countries will participate in the annual ICEP, consisting of classroom sessions, meetings, socials, training materials exchange, off ice training and on ice training sessions. more >>

Accommodations
Players stay with Swedish hockey host families (2-3 PH players per house). Family members, coaches and Planet Hockey staff stay at the Clarion Stockholm Hotel >>.  Family members will all receive a "Stockholm Pass" which provides unlimited train, subway, bus and boat transportation throughout the tour.

Meals - all meals except lunch are included.

Host Family Dinner - Join your child's host family, in their home, for a great night of Swedish food, spirits and hockey conversation. A tour highlight.

Transportation - Luxury Touring Bus, includes airport transfers from and back to Stockholm (ARN-Arlanda) Airport.

Adult Activities - may include golf, wine tours, country tours, museums & social evenings.  We will connect you with your housing family approximately 8 weeks prior to the tour to meet your housing family and to begin discussing and organizing fun activities.

Tour Information - Planet Hockey is currently recruiting skilled teams, players and hockey families to represent TEAM Planet Hockey at all levels (Peewee, Bantam, Midget) of the Planet Hockey International Cup & Camp in Bålsta, Sweden August 5-13, 2012. All teams will be comprised of skilled players recruited by Planet Hockey or a Planet Hockey Representative. Roster spots are limited and will be filled by qualified players on a first committed, first served basis.

Tour Objectives - To expose skilled North American players to European Hockey through Competition (Games) and Skills training (Camp) both on the ice and off the ice. Also, to provide quality European competition, training, cultural exchanges, touring and a memorable international experience for both players and family members.

Player Requirements - Players who fulfill the following player requirements will be eligible to participate:

  • Recruited and/or invited by Planet Hockey.
  • Birthyears according to Division requirements (Peewee, Bantam, Midget).
  • Each team is allowed two 'overage' players (by one birthyear).
  • Currently play at the travel/competitive level.
  • Strong individual and team skills, including character, leadership, sportsmanship and maturity.
  • (1-2) Letters of recommendation may be requested by Planet Hockey.  Not required for returning players.
  • At least one parent must accompany each player. This is a first rate family hockey tour. There will be a significant fee assessed to any player who is cleared to participate without accompanying family members.

Coaches - Enter your team! Are you interested in bringing your current team or in organizing your own select team to participate in the Swedish Summit Series? We can accommodate 3 teams per division (see above) on a first come, first served basis. Please fill out a Team Interest Form . We will follow up with you. Also, be part of the ICEP - International Coaches Education Program. Included for all coaches.

Tour Fees

  • Prior to January 15, 2012 - Players: $2,395. Family members (Adults): $2,295. Family members under 8: $1,295.
  • After to January 15, 2012 - Players: $2,495. Family members (Adults): $2,395. Family members under 8: $1,295.
  • Tour cost does not include air, lunch, drinks at dinner.
  • All Tour components subject to change. Tour schedule to be provided prior to departure.
  • Booking Airline Tickets - Each player/family is responsible for planning and booking their airline tickets.  more >>

Deposits/Payments

  • Deposit #1 – Non-refundable $500 deposit per person due upon registration. Spots are not reserved until deposit is received.
  • Payment #2 - $500 per person due February 1, 2012.
  • Payment #3 - $500 per person due March 31, 2012.
  • Payment #4 - Final Payment due May 31, 2012.  All tour members must be paid in full.
  • No refunds within 90 days of tour.
  • Late payments subject to a 15% late fee
  • Players/families may be removed from team list and all monies forfeited for late or non-payment

Tour Notes

  • Air Travel – airline tickets, reservations and planning is the responsibility of each family. You may choose to arrive early, or leave late to see other parts of Europe (many families do). Click here for travel parameters >>.
  • Airport - must use the Stockholm (ARN -Arlanda) Airport. Planet Hockey airport transfers will not be provided for any other airports.
  • Hotel lodging based on double or triple occupancy (2 or 3 per room). Single room upgrade charge $895.
  • Tour details and a check list of suggested ‘things’ to bring will be sent to you prior to the tour.
  • Passports are required of ALL participants.

FAQs
How are players selected?

  1. Invited - by Shawn Killian, Steve Strunk (Planet Hockey Directors) or by the coach of your participating Swedish Hockey Summit Team.
  2. Recruited - during a Planet Hockey Camp or by a Planet Hockey Area Representative or European Recruiter.
  3. Cleared - players we have not met and/or who have not trained with Planet Hockey are still welcome to join us provided they are 'cleared' through a conversation with Planet Hockey European Tours Director Shawn Killian. We may request 2 letters of recommendations from past coaches.

Do I have to attend a Planet Hockey Camp to be evaluated and selected?
No, many players and families join us each year who are new to Planet Hockey.

When are Planet Hockey European Tours?
Typically in the Summer. Periodically we offer Christmas/Holiday Tours and Spring Tours. We organize Custom Tours any time of the year.

Can I bring my team?
Yes. You can even organize your own All-star team. Space permitting. Contact Shawn Killian
