COVID-19

May 1, 2020
from Shawn Killian – Planet Hockey, Inc. President

I hope this finds you and your family happy and healthy.

At this time, we plan to proceed with our Summer Camp programs as scheduled.  That said, we are a month away from the beginning of our hockey camp season, still with much uncertainty.

The latest federal guidelines for "Opening up America Again" allow for organized youth activities and camps to reopen in Phase II of the three-level process. We anticipate additional state and county guidelines related to summer camps and will implement local health-related requirements. Additionally, we will make any necessary Planet Hockey camp modifications centered around the safety of our students.

Receiving this email indicates that your camp is still scheduled as planned as we await word from the rink as to if/when the rink will open and what that will look like.  Much depends on how regulators allow places of assembly to reopen and what new protective measures are required.  As a staff, we are working to implement policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellness of our families.  We are excited to conduct camp, to deliver quality skills training and to ensure the safety of our staff, our students and the community at large.

The key remains patience, which is wearing thin for all of us.  The past two months have been challenging and filled with uncertainty and sacrifice.  We are all ready to get back on the ice.

Many of our students are familiar with building a ‘Planet Hockey skills pizza’ in lecture, where we add the ingredients (components of a great hockey player) to make our skills pizza.  Similarly, getting back on the ice this summer is like baking a Planet Hockey cake.  We will need a full bag of patience, 2 cups of optimism, 1 pint of positivity, 1 cup of chilled flexibility, a dash of luck and one more cup of patience.

All we can do at this point is to continue to take care of ourselves, have a big bite of Planet Hockey cake as we await word from the rink.  As we wait, know that you are protected.

Any balance due will not be charged until camp is confirmed, and, in the event that Planet Hockey cancels camp, you will be refunded in full under our COVID-19 Consideration Policy, less $32.99 ($7.99 registration fee and $25 processing fee).

If you cancel, we will default to our cancellation policy.

Currently, there are no rinks open in the USA but many plan to open in the coming weeks.

If your camp is in June, we will be communicating with you via email on May 15 and again one week prior to camp.  If we hear from a rink or make a decision earlier, we will contact you immediately.

If your camp is a GO:

  1. We all need to be prepared to operate under a ‘new normal’.  This likely will involve new distancing guidelines, dressing/locker room policies, limited rink occupancy, bringing germ gel, a mask and possibly a temporal thermometer.
  2. We will ask you to help us out by recruiting a few last-minute players since we have lost several months of marketing.
  3. We will give you as much notice as possible and will provide you with new guidelines.
  4. We will notify you with a 24-hour alert that your credit card will be charged the camp balance if you have a balance due

What can you expect this summer at Planet Hockey?

The experience and educational value of our students is and will continue to be a priority for our team. The functionalities of the program are subject to change based on the CDC, national, and state guidelines. We will continue to adapt new policies and procedures as we learn more.  We ask that our families remain flexible and prepared to follow all social distancing recommendations and any new protocols.

Planet Hockey will follow CDC, national, and state camp guidelines.  We are also creating new program guidelines to ensure the long-term safety of all participants. Camp staff will be trained to supervise required behaviors among program participants (including regular handwashing and distancing).  This information will be supplied to you prior to and throughout camp.

We can’t thank our amazing Planet Hockey families enough for their continued patience and hockey optimism.  It’s time to get back on the ice…safely.

We will send additional emails as your camp start date approaches and as more information becomes available.  You can view Planet Hockey COVID-19 updates here

Stay safe, stay strong, stay positive.

April 1, 2020
from Shawn Killian – Planet Hockey, Inc. President

I hope that this finds you and your family well, remaining positive and engaged in the efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19.  Planet Hockey is in compliance with the various guidelines outlined by local and federal authorities as well as those implemented by USA Hockey to do our part to protect all our members, their families and the community as a whole.

Throughout the past 26 years, Planet Hockey has played an important role and has had a major impact in the lives of tens of thousands of players, coaches and parents throughout the world and it is our intention to be there for all our members once conditions correct.

This week, in consideration of President Trump’s extension of the federal social distancing guidelines until April 30th, we have announced a 4 week pause, until May 1st.

During this time of waiting, Planet Hockey will continue to work closely with all of our partner rinks, youth hockey associations and municipalities in preparation to handle the many different scenarios to deliver quality hockey camps this summer.  Behind the scenes, our administrative staff are working tirelessly to investigate all options as to how best support our membership both now and in the future and to ensure that we are prepared in all areas for the return of hockey.

The timeline for what happens next has already been set in place by the local and state authorities, with businesses being asked to close down and self-isolation required at least through April 30th.  During this period, we will continue to monitor all updates provided by CDC and local and state authorities.

Patience during a time like this is difficult, but we ask all Planet Hockey families to join us in being courageous and responsible, supportive and respectful, informed and resilient and to comply with all public health guidance until May 1, when we will re-connect with updates.

In the event that a camp must be cancelled due to federal, state or local orders, you will be notified immediately, and your camp fees will be frozen and 100% available to you for future Planet Hockey camps and programs.  All cancellation and transfer fees will be waived.

Thank you for your continued support of Planet Hockey and we wish you and your family, health and wellness through these uncertain times.  Stay safe, stay strong, stay positive.

We will send additional emails as your camp start date approaches and as more information becomes available.  You can view Planet Hockey COVID-19 updates here

We look forward to seeing everyone as soon as we can do so safely and responsibly.

May hockey return soon.

March 18, 2020
from Shawn Killian – Planet Hockey, Inc. President

At Planet Hockey, we remain committed to providing you with exceptional hockey skills training through our teams of hockey skills experts operating worldwide.  We stand for togetherness - bringing friends, families, and communities together around the great game of hockey.  We celebrate high-fives, team cheers, large crowds, pizza parties and more. Social connection is the heart and soul of our sport, and it is why we are reaching out to you today with an update on the upcoming camp season that begins in June.

As the global effect of coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to evolve, Planet Hockey is firmly focused on the health and safety of our students, staff and community at large.  We are closely monitoring the changing situation and complying with public health guidance.

And do we miss hockey!  However, before the puck can drop again, we all need to unleash what hockey has taught us about becoming the ultimate team player.  Be a leader, be courageous, remain informed & resilient, be responsible, supportive and respectful and comply with public health guidance:

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) made the following announcement on March 15 - “Therefore, CDC, in accordance with its guidance for large events and mass gatherings, recommends that for the next 8 weeks, organizers (whether groups or individuals) cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States.”

The next day on March 16, the White House released “The President’s Coronavirus Guidelines for America” which includes “avoiding social gatherings in groups of more than 10 people.”

During these uncertain times, we would like to reassure you that our extensive global network will continue to operate to ensure the best service possible.

We want to assure you that our business continuity plans are prepared to support our valued customers during these challenging times.

Our Camp Balances policy has been amended to the following.  For those who registered with a deposit, your balance due will not be charged until camp is 100% confirmed by the rink/facility rather than 60 days prior to camp.

We are operating under a 30-day notification response where decisions about camps will be communicated to our students 30 days prior to the camp start date.  As details are fluid, some camps will require a shorter notification response period.  We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as your camp dates approach.  Should a rink/facility notify us earlier, we will communicate that information to you immediately.

In the event that a camp must be cancelled due to federal, state or local orders, you will be notified immediately, and your camp fees will be frozen and 100% available to you for future Planet Hockey camps and programs.  All cancellation and transfer fees will be waived.

In the meantime, we are launching the Planet Hockey – At Home Hockey Skills Challenge to keep players strong, engaged and growing during these difficult times.  Please respect social distancing and use good judgement when if you engage in our at home skills challenge.  Safety first and we suggest drills that you can do by yourself with a family member videoing your magic.

  1. We begin by issuing the Slam Dunk Challenge to players.  Give it a try and see how many balls you can dunk in 60 seconds.
  2. Video yourself performing an off ice drill or two, upload it to your video platform and send the link to: videoclips@planethockey.com.  Please send only the link and not the file.
  3. You can view all submitted training videos here

Additionally, we recommend a temporarily free workout site with great workouts for the entire family.  Les Mills On Demand

We will send additional emails as your camp start date approaches and as more information becomes available.  You can view Planet Hockey COVID-19 updates here

We look forward to seeing everyone as soon as we can do so safely and responsibly.

Hockey hugs and hi-fives.
